Before I listen to Pale King, should I directly read another DFW novel to get a feel for his voice? I've never done audiobooks before so I'm not sure how true-to-the-author the experience is.

I don't know, I'm not much an audiobooker myself, but I'd imagine you could probably just jump right in with Pale King. From what I've heard it's him at his most human level, not trying to be overly wordy or animated like he does with Infinite Jest, but I'm sure with either text the audiobook reader would make it a point to properly capture the narrative voice, given that it's a premium audiobook and all. I've listened to a few dry Librivox audiobooks for books I didn't want to read in English courses, and even being free and somewhat poorly read I found the rhythm of the prose to come pretty well across

If you want to ease into the author, I guess I would recommend "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" because I think it's among his best work nonfiction or otherwise, but I'm sure you can just start with Pale King
