OK, I've handshaked with Hegel, hammered into Heidegger, fattened up with Freud, maxxed out with Marx and sailed into Sartre. Are there any other philosophers I need to get to know before face off with Foucault?

I deferred Derrida, ill get to him later

Deleuze can be deterriotorialized before/after/during Foucalt's fits. Same thing with deciding Derrida: they're contemporaries whose works link and branch off each others.

But Foucalt frankly disliked Deleuze.

No, new atheists just stick to picking on theists.

Actually, Nietzsche's influence on Foucault is much broader than just N's genealogical method, like N's critique of the notions of subject and truth, and his notion of the will which F also uses.
So I would add Beyond Good and Evil as well as a sort of overview.

Another big influence is Heidegger. You can also add structuralism if you're going to read his early works.

What about Searle vs. Derrida? Searle didn't really think through what Derrida was saying then Derrida showed him through the practice of him writing a response.
