I wish I had someone like David Foster Wallace in my life, maybe as a teacher, wise neighbor whose son/daughter i happen to know, maybe a family member. Everyone in my everyday environment are an ass of drones controlled by their own superficial fairytales and beliefs. No one around me likes to think, accept reasonable ideas, talk about the BS in society or actually try to see a problem and make a difference in a problem with seeing religion as a factor of many problems. We need more people like DFW who can reach out to all age groups and get the people thinking. Or maybe even, we need to reach out together. A thousand minds can make a bigger impact than just one.

I know what you mean, OP. I wish I had a group of friends that liked to meet up and have serious but detached and amicable discussions. Like the Inklings.
