whatever his prose isn't amazing but it's functional and it doesn't distract from the story and characters which is what is most important in fiction like this.
/lit/ are a bunch of pretentious plebs who use literature to boost their image without actually caring about the joy of reading

Exactly. In cheap entertainment. If you put the effort in, you get a greater joy from reading things with more than just functional prose, story and characters.
You're arguing that bud lite is a good beer because it gets you drunk and doesn't taste of much.

Pretty much this. Still, I don't think he's a cancer or anything. Reading books like this from time to time is fairly recreational and they never aspired to be more than light read. It is what it is.

Not only that, there are cheap entertainments that are more entertaining than GRRM's stuff.

you acknowledging that the prose is not the problem does not explain /lit/ plebs constantly whining about his prose

That's not what he said at all. With that lack of reading comprehension it's no wonder you're a fan of GRRM.

Sapkowski's The Witcher series if you want a darkish fantasy, for example. It's well-written in the sense that his descriptions don't drag, his action scenes flow really well and he's also master of dialogue. It's a shame the English translation is so bad, though. I read it both in Polish and in English and the wordplay isn't nearly as entertaining in the English version.
