Can't say that I agree with you, anon. I thought the ending to Grapes of Wrath was one of the most beautifully symbolic and impactful images of all the books I have read, and a pretty compelling conclusion to all the observations that the book had made about humanity and authority. While I by no means agree with Stienbeck's political holdings, that one image of a girl feeding a complete stranger with the milk of her body, taking, effectively, the whole of humanity as her own child to be cared and provided for, at least showed me the beauty of socialism on a conceptual, visceral level.
