There's like one every other page in Zarathustra.

Which is sort of the point. Constant self-overcoming. Constant reevaluations of values.

One of his followers asks him why the fuck Zarathustra contradicts himself and why he said X yesterday but says Y today.

Zarathustra just says I don't gotta explain shit. Why do you need reasons to have the claims become truth and values to you?

Nietzsche places claims beyond our current values and truths in the hopes that they might engender some affective intensity needed to make the bridge to it. But its a bridge to a truth or a value that has to be built by ourselves.

Truth isn't something perceived immaculately as it really is and then accepted. It's a creation of a striving, willing, loving towards creating and esteeming.

For they have said, reasoning with themselves, but not right: The time of our life is short and tedious, and in the end of a man there is no remedy, and no man hath been known to have returned from hell: For we are born of nothing, and after this we shall be as if we had not been: for the breath in our nostrils is smoke: and speech a spark to move our heart, Which being put out, our body shall be ashes, and our spirit shall be poured abroad as soft air, and our life shall pass away as the trace of a cloud, and shall be dispersed as a mist, which is driven away by the beams of the sun, and overpowered with the heat thereof: And our name in time shall be forgotten, and no man shall have any remembrance of our works. For our time is as the passing of a shadow, and there is no going back of our end: for it is fast sealed, and no man returneth.

Come therefore, and let us enjoy the good things that are present, and let us speedily use the creatures as in youth. Let us fill ourselves with costly wine, and ointments: and let not the flower of the time pass by us. Let us crown ourselves with roses, before they be withered: let no meadow escape our riot. Let none of us go without his part in luxury: let us everywhere leave tokens of joy: for this is our portion, and this our lot. Let us oppress the poor just man, and not spare the widow, nor honour the ancient grey hairs of the aged.

But let our strength be the law of justice: for that which is feeble, is found to be nothing worth. Let us therefore lie in wait for the just, because he is not for our turn, and he is contrary to our doings, and upbraideth us with transgressions of the law, and divulgeth against us the sins of our way of life. He boasteth that he hath the knowledge of God, and calleth himself the son of God. He is become a censurer of our thoughts. He is grievous unto us, even to behold: for his life is not like other men' s, and his ways are very different.

We are esteemed by him as triflers, and he abstaineth from our ways as from filthiness, and he preferreth the latter end of the just, and glorieth that he hath God for his father. Let us see then if his words be true, and let us prove what shall happen to him, and we shall know what his end shall be. For if he be the true son of God, he will defend him, and will deliver him from the hands of his enemies. Let us examine him by outrages and tortures, that we may know his meekness and try his patience. Let us condemn him to a most shameful death: for there shall be respect had unto him by his words.

These things they thought, and were deceived: for their own malice blinded them. And they knew not the secrets of God, nor hoped for the wages of justice, nor esteemed the honour of holy souls. For God created man incorruptible, and to the image of his own likeness he made him. But by the envy of the devil, death came into the world: And they follow him that are of his side.

>I personally think Nietzsche's philosophy is the most positive, optimistic philosophy there is.

I remember one of the high school shooters when he was going around murdering his fellow students would look into their eyes to determine whether or not they "deserved to live". He believed he was fulfilling some kind of Darwinian law by selecting only those who will
"fit to survive". And so based on how the terrified students would react to his pointing a gun at them he would decide whether or not to slaughter them.

Nietzsche's "optimistic" philosophy practically champions this boy as an Overman who had the will to power enough to create his own moral law.

And for a sentimental liberal pansy such as I suppose you are, being able to think and do for yourself probably means getting to choose what films you watch and what people you have sex with. But having the freedom to think and do for yourself also means giving the right to all the world's murderers, thieves, rapists, etc. You are literally acquitting murderers and rapists of all guilt with your "optimistic" philosophy.

He has a grim, surly, battered-looking face, overhanging eyebrows which give him the expression of a sheep-dog of the steppes, and a red nose; he is short and looks thin and scraggy, but he is of imposing deportment and his fists are vigorous. He belongs to the class of simple-hearted, practical, and dull-witted people, prompt in carrying out orders, who like discipline better than anything in the world, and so are convinced that it is their duty to beat people. This is stupid and the no1 misunderstanding of Nietzsche, the Overman is not simply some psychotic dude that makes everyone submit to him. That's just Machiavelli's Prince. the Overman follows the Dyonisian principles of life affirmation, he creates value not by abritrarily imposing it , but by creating the conditions in which his thought can be aplied, in other words the Overman can only be some sort of Philosopher or Artist, someone who masters not only himself but also the world.

In the end I would much rather be a Basel professor than God; but I have not dared push my private egoism so far as to desist for its sake from the creation of the world. You see, one must make sacrifices however and wherever one lives.

Kant: or cant as an intelligible character.

Out of life's school of war: What does not destroy me, makes me stronger.

"Evil men have no songs." How is it, then, that the Russians have songs?

By searching out origins, one becomes a crab. The historian looks backward; eventually he also believes backward.

I mistrust all systematizers and avoid them. The will to a system is a lack of integrity.

What does it matter if I am right? I am much too right. And he who laughs best today will also laugh last.

Socrates was plebeian.

But Socrates guessed even more. He saw through the noble Athenians; he saw that his own case, his idiosyncrasy, was no longer exceptional. The same kind of degeneration was quietly developing everywhere: old Athens was coming to an end. And Socrates understood that the world needed him — his method, his cure, his personal artifice of self-preservation.

Witness modern marriage. All rationality has clearly vanished from modern marriage; yet that is no objection to marriage, but to modernity.

Thus, the philosopher dislikes marriage as well as what might persuade him into it: marriage is a barrier and a disaster along his route to the optimal. What great philosopher up to now has been married? Heraclitus, Plato, Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, Kant, Schopenhauer: none of these got married. What's more, we cannot even imagine them married. A married philosopher belongs in a comedy, that`s my principle. And Socrates, the exception, the malicious Socrates, it appears, got married ironically to demonstrate this very principle.

The irreverent idea that the great sages are types of decline first occurred to me precisely in a case where it is most strongly opposed by both scholarly and unscholarly prejudice: I realized that Socrates and Plato were symptoms of degeneration, tools of the Greek dissolution, pseudo-Greek, anti-Greek (Birth of Tragedy, 1872).

But even when the moralist addresses himself only to the single human being and says to him, "You ought to be such and such!" he does not cease to make himself ridiculous.

Nothing seems rarer to me today than genuine hypocrisy.

My revalued reason says: when a people degenerates physiologically, when it approaches destruction, then the result is license and luxury (that is, the craving for ever stronger and more frequent stimulation necessary to arouse an exhausted nature).

>> No.6726193

But as the youths to be educated were brought up competing with one another, their educators in their turn were in rivalry with each other. Full of mistrust and jealousy, the great music masters Pindar and Simonides took their places next to each other; the sophist, the advanced teacher of antiquity, met his fellow sophist in contest; even the most general way of teaching, through drama, was only brought to the people in the form of an immense struggle of great musicians and dramatists. How wonderful! ‘Even the artist has a grudge against the artist!’. And modern man fears nothing so much in an artist as personal belligerence, whilst the Greek knows the artist only in personal struggle. Where modern man senses the weakness of a work of art, there the Hellene looks for the source of its greatest strength! What, for example, is of particular artistic importance in Plato’s dialogues is mostly the result of a competition with the art of the orators, the sophists, the dramatists of his time, invented for the purpose of his finally being able to say: ‘Look: I, too, can do what my great rivals can do; yes, I can do it better than them. No Protagoras has written myths as beautiful as mine, no dramatist has written such a lively and fascinating whole as the Symposium, no orator has composed such speeches as I present in the Gorgias – and now I reject all of that and condemn all imitative art! Only the contest made me a poet, sophist and orator!’ What a problem reveals itself to us when we enquire about the relationship of the contest to the conception of the work of art! –

How much disgruntled heaviness, lameness, dampness, dressing gown — how much beer there is in the German intelligence! How is it at all possible that young men who dedicate their lives to the most spiritual goals do not feel the first instinct of spirituality, the spirit's instinct of self-preservation — and drink beer? The alcoholism of young scholars is perhaps no question mark concerning their scholarliness — without spirit one can still be a great scholar — but in every other respect it remains a problem. Where would one not find the gentle degeneration which beer produces in the spirit? Once, in a case that has almost become famous, I put my finger on such a degeneration — the degeneration of our number-one German free spirit, the clever David Strauss, into the author of a beer-bench gospel and "new faith." It was not for nothing that he had made his vow to the "fair brunette" [dark beer] in verse — loyalty unto death.

From Nietzsche's wiki: Perhaps under Ortlepp's influence, [Nietzsche] and a student named Richter returned to school drunk and encountered a teacher, resulting in Nietzsche's demotion from first in his class and the end of his status as a prefect.

He obliterated his self-esteem through his own philosophy, much like Kierkefag. Philosophy often likes to forget about its area of competence, probably due to all of the .. enlightenment.

Speaking of entitlement, if you ever run into this sort of problem when chasing ideals or making "rational" life decisions, consider le drawing man as a foundation instead, then branch off into whatever other questions there are on your mind (and rest assured, Stirner doesn't answer all of them). I recommend empiricism and a whole lot of sex so you get over Nichi Vici.

He loves short lived habits, it was never about a consistent way of life that can be up and replicated for all like stoicism, so all charges of inconsistency or contradictions fail. i.e. If you a looking for a clear, traditional, logically dependant moral code don't go to Nietzsche.

I'm talking about people who realize the inherent infantilism in having role models of any kind, kind of like posting some eager to disagree meme Kant who's just waiting to prove me wrong.

I've been mixing Stirner with meditation on emptiness and they've helped me bust a lot of ghosts and made me aware that I'm the Unique One...some sex would be great though

TBF, you need to realize that Nietzsche is more like a 'god' or some kind of religious figure rather than a philosopher.

Nietzsche's soul is active in the world, and it has one goal:

To tyrannize and parasitize as many humans as possible and, finally, to consume the universe itself. To that extent he needs to break down peoples' logical faculty, and to disturb them emotionally. This is why his later works contain so many edgy statements and contrarianism: he needs to assault the reader and cause a case of PTSD so he can worm his way in.

Once inside the affected organism, Nietzsche begins consuming more and more of his mental life until finally there is nothing left remaining and the person's own soul has been replaced by that of Nietzsche. The person then becomes a full time propagandist for Nietzsche and shares his work with other people, allowing the process to continue and spread.

Eventually, assuming I conquer enough humans, and assuming that humans develop technology capable of devouring stars and other such things, I will finally conquer the entire universe. Then, and ONLY then, will the human race be able to die spectacularly and go to hell.
