How else would a 66 year old Marxist with broken English regularly appear on national television in first world Western countries?

No, that just puts it back the way it was, but time has passed since the original event in which the event had an effect;

What we are talking about is to make it as if it had never happened, as if it had never happened all along.

Think of the difference (to a religious person) between mere divorce and Episcopal annulment of the marriage.

"Undo" then. I would like to undo the things I did (but sadly I cannot). Ich würde die Dinge die ich getan habe gerne rückgängig machen.

Reverse time. Zeit rückgängig machen.

>What is ideology?

The most elementary definition of ideology is probably the well-known phrase from Marx's Capital: "Sie wissen das nicht, aber sie tun es" ("they do not know it, but they are doing it"). The very concept of ideology implies a kind of basic, constitutive naïveté: the misrecognition of its own presuppositions, of its own effective conditions, a distance, a divergence between so-called social reality and our distorted representation, our false consciousness of it

>>6708909
>What then is 'pure' ideology?

I think Zizek is just using 'pure' as an intensifier.

At first Marx and Engels defined ideology as everything else that was not material and concerned with the economic order. They later started to use it as a tool of critique and this got them in some trouble with what does and doesn't fall under ideology since it was possible to turn it back on them, eg is communism then ideology? So they talk about ideas that are valid in that they represent the real material world and economic order and they talk about ideas that do not do this and so only stand to obfuscate reality, it's also implicit that when something does this it's because even if the one employing this obfuscating ideas doesn't intend to one means to benefit from their use so someones interests are inherent in these [ ideas that don't represent the world accurately with relevance to what is real ] ideologies. Adding pure is just the extension of this to mean a complete obfuscation or disconnect from the material world.

All of this is mixed up with the idea of historical materialism or marxism or w/e being scientific and representing the world honestly. Basically, marxism = good ideas and anything that detracts from its principles = bad ideas.
