Artemis Fowl is pretty much power fiction. That is, the point of it is to make the reader admire the character, but also to make the character relatable so it makes the reader feel good. It's dangerous because it turns reading from a deeply pleasurable activity into an instant gratification that doesn't actually expand your mind but rather give you a snort of self confidence.

That being said, so long as the book's not preachy or poorly written, it's pretty alright.

Abarat will always be my favorite because it's one of those books where the reader is in the same perspective as the protagonist and you get to learn about the world as the story progresses. The archipelago setting was also really cool.

As far as ideologies in themes go, it has more of heavy- handed evnirommetalism, than atheism and contempt for the transcendenta, but tha only shows up a few times per book.
