I had sort of heard before picking this up that it gets really hard to read starting in one of the books, does anyone know when that is? 'Cause, I just finished book 5 and it seems fine so far. I mean, the "muh strong women" thing is rather stale now, but not particularly annoying. If I can handle that, does that mean I can handle it all, or was that not the reason this gets tiresome?

6 is very satisfying
7 is kinda slow and boring
8 is pretty slow and boring
9 is somewhat satisfying
10 is very boring and super slow
11 is satisfying and begins to pick up pace
12 - 14 are all very satisfying and fast paced.

So the main issues are pacing and content volume, and not something related to thematic or stylistic issues? That should be fine then, I'm pretty sure I've made it through worse. Thanks anon.

IIRC book 6 is good, but books 7, 8 and specially 10 are appalling.
9, 11 and Brandon Sanderson takeover are very good, but you need the others for them to make sense.

Is this actually any good? I thought it was just rip-off of Dune.

It's not very good, but it has many fun moments, if you understand what I mean.

Enlighten me. On my home board a statement like that would be interpreted as something like "yeah the writing, plot, setting, and characters are all shit but at least the cute girls doing cute things is pretty fucking cute". Maybe I'm just triggered by the word "fun" as justification for something, but I really don't get it.

It's probably the third best Epic Fantasy series ever, after Lotr and Malazan, but I'm not sure it that's too much. It has a very interesting world (yet not as great as Arrakis) and a decent plot. On the other hand it's too slow and most of the characters are annoying.

It has some clichés, but overrall is a good idea on the hand of a bad writer.

I read it before I read Dune. Well I actually started reading the series in 7th grade simply because they were the largest fiction books in my library. They got pretty good and then by book 7 or 8 (in 9th grade by then) it was so boring and long I couldn't bring myself to continue.

There's only 6 dune books.

The Kevin J Anderson books are sub literate trash

Let's be honest, if Jordan didn't die, this series would have just kept going and going and going

IIRC he said that book 12 wold be the last, even if it had 25k pages.
Brandon Sanderson wrote three more, but they were very good, so I don't really mind.

I was talking about Wheel of Time. I said I read WoT before Dune.

>> No.6666061

Is there any longer series than WoT?
I like long, descritive slow stories.

The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind
Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad William (the last book in that series is technically one of the longest ever written)
