So I picked up The Road a couple days ago, and I've really been enjoying it. What does /lit/ think of it?

/lit/ thinks - finish the fucking book before wanting people to spoonfeed you opinions and ideas
you don't need us to hold your hand, it's not a difficult book

Go back to reddit or just read blood meridian instead

I'm reading it currently as well

The lack of quotations can be annoying, but the relationship between the son and the father makes me feel a love for the two.

I love it.

I feel so tense whenever the father talks about killing himself or the boy...

I'm with you on the quotes. I think McCarthy does a pretty good job letting you know when they're talking though, so it's not too bad.

And they they did this and then there was a mountain and he loved his son and it was scary and lots of ash

A few people on /lit/ have some issues with McCarthy, most of it stemming from his popularity, there are a lot of great authors around today who are on par with McCarthy who get none of the same attention or praise. That irks some people.

The Road is a great book, especially as an entry point for people who normally wouldn't read something as stylistic as McCarthy. I have a few friends who aren't super well-read, and I've found that the Road is a great book to get somebody like that interested in other less accessible works.

The book itself is well-written and worth a read. I enjoyed it.

Great discussion OP, next time at least bring something to fucking say to the table

i got ~80 pages in and i found it completely boring. I am going to give it another go soon, but i just kept waiting for something interesting to happen, it felt like 80 pages describing a wasteland.

What other contemporary authors do you feel are on McCarthy's level and also don't get notice or praise? Every one I can think of gets just as much critical notice and praise as McCarthy.
