What are you guys reading right now?

Pic related for me. I read Les Miserables and fell in love with Victor Hugo. I'm hoping this is as good, I'm only a tenth of the way through it, and I already doubt it can live up to his magnum opus.

Read his poetry instead, his novels aren't that good

>> No.6616727

Reading Crime and Punishment. I only just finished part 1 and it's pretty good.

Obvious pleb.

Not pic related edition, but that cover looks like she's giving him a downlow handjob. I really like it so far.

>Hugo's novels
>better than his poetry or his plays
Are you serious ? Do you even read ?

I didn't say they were better, but his novels are some of the best literature ever produced by man. Not reading them at all as you suggested would be a crime.

>but his novels are some of the best literature ever produced by man
His poetry is, not his novels
Huysmans is a better novelist

I'm reading Bleeding Edge by Ruggles.

And I'm also reading my friend's-girlfriend's YA fantasy novel and giving her as harsh feedback as I think she can bear.

>my friend's-girlfriend's YA fantasy novel
How is it?

The writing is bland, the action/plot stops whenever she wants to describe something, too much inane internal monologue, overuse of adjectives, childish main characters, mediocre use of third person, and generally nothing that sets her writing apart from anything else I've ever read.

My mistake.

damn

In fairness the chapters I've read so far were written over two years ago, so it may get better as I move through it, but it's just an incredibly hard slog.

Well cmon, which book is it?!

Is she published?

She's not published. The book's currently at 55k words as it stands, which is far more than I've ever written so she can have credit for that.

Let her know fantasy novels are usually best for debut at 100k. Just dash her dreams in one line.

>> No.6616831

She knows that, and is aiming for 100k, it's not finished yet.
