has anyone read the hedge knight series and if so, should I read it

Yes, we generally don't like ASOIAF here. (Many actually do, but they want to look cool and serious so they pretend.)

Hedge Knight is nice. I've read the comic versions of the first two. First one is great, the second one is shitty boring nothing with some random reflections on past, similar to AFFC and ADWD.

Stuff like ASOIAF:
Tolkien - Children of Húrin and Silmarillion
Malazan
Tad Williams - Shadowmarch, Dragonbone Chair...
Wheel of Time
[by the time you finish the abovementioned books you'll be sick of the concept and should move on to better things]
Herbert - Dune (scifi)
Beowulf
Iliad and Odyssey
