The God of the Old Testament is derived from a war (also maybe fire and volcano) god of the basically polytheistic ancient tribal precursor of Judaism.

The God of the New Testament is what happened when a really nice dude named Jesus (anglicized) realized that the OT God was an asshole by the letter of the book itself, so he started a feelgood offshoot cult called Christianity that got really popular.
