For me, Oscar Wilde is the greatest author and playwright to have ever lived. Unlike other writers, his metaphor is perfect and not cliche, he has really memorable lines and the endings are always bittersweet- never happy or sad, but somewhere in between. Just read his complete works, his short stories are beautiful.
