Pinecone is probably the most imaginative out of the three, but he's heavily influenced and derivative of Joyce.

Well, his characters for the most part are complicated, fucked-up White people with some torment or other, while his Black characters are almost all simple and good. Which probably came off as enlightened in his contemporary context, but it comes off a little bit 'noble savage'-y to me today. like Blacks aren't complex enough to be anything but dumb-animal good. The only exception I can think of being Charles Bon in Absalom, Absalom, who is almost entirely White himself.

But I've only read Sanctuary, As I Lay Dying, The Sound and the Fury, Light in August, Absalom, Absalom, and Go Down Moses, so there may be lots of stuff in other works that doesn't fit this thesis.
