Everyone on /lit/ already knows that James Joyce is a high-brow troll.

I'm pretty sure OP's picture was made by some high school kid on /b/ or whatever.

no, we voted on it. like one judge said to the other, be fair but if you cant be fair, be arbitrary.

whoa, hold on, I thought Joyce was supposed to be amazing. I just bought Portrait of the Artist and will probably buy Ulysses too.

Why's he a troll?

He's not. People who don't want to spend the time understanding, much less reading, Joyce call him a troll.

/tv/ seems more likely because the three works mentioned in it are generally regarded are good by critics but no one with any knowledge of those mediums would be any means call them the best; the only people to take it it seriously at all would therefore be those who posses very little knowledge regarding art but would insist that they know what they are talking about. Though this is very common on 4chan, and indeed anywhere on the internet and even IRL, /tv/ personifies this more than any other board.

P.S. - Am I using semicolon right?

Ulysses was selected by the Modern Library editorial board, which, judging from some of their other picks, doesn't have very good taste in literature.

This is an actual quote by James Joyce:

>“I've put in so many enigmas and puzzles that it will keep the professors busy for centuries arguing over what I meant, and that's the only way of insuring one's immortality.”

I'm glad we went with Ulysses. It's not as laughable as DSoTM. Of course, we all have our own favorite which we consider the greatest, but joyce has been a common ground for /lit/. sort of the anti-ayn rand if you will. I voted for his letters to nora, personally. but i'm okay with Ulysses.
