Is this all shit?
Can you unironically enjoy books featured here?
Can you ironically enjoy books featured here?
Are there notable exceptions?
etc.
General thoughts.

It's probably 90% shit but there may have been one or two decent books that managed to slip in. I've never cared enough to really look through examples though.

Faulkner.

>> No.6509930

Faulkner and Steinbeck have made their way into Oprah's book club. Probably a few others too.

It's debatable but I enjoyed The Road

I'm also the type that doesn't "simulate" everything happening in the book in my mind; I found The Road fairly difficult because of this.

You were already going to call me a pleb for liking The Road, might as well mention that it wasn't an easy read for me.

Anna Karenina was one so it's got that going for it

Boorstin would have a fucking field day.

>> No.6510707

Steinbeck, Faulkner, Franzen, and Tolstoy slipped in.

In general I would avoid book club and literary prize recommendations for contemporary works. There's a lot more good stuff being pushed by publishing houses like Dalkey Archive and reviewers like The Complete Review.

>Franzen

I was about to make a shitpost about how Franzen was selected, thereby signifying that the book club had merit, but I see you beat me to the punch.

It's actually Franzen, because he's talentless.
