Hey, Im writing a book where the main character is a schizophrenic. Looking for any good books to research schizophrenia. In particular Im trying to get the whole wordsalad/disorganized thinking down since the story is in first person.

Anything with good examples of Schizo word games is what Im asking for. An autobiography would be a god send.

i was just thinking for myself that a schizophrenic would make an interesting narrator for a modernist novel. unreliable narrator, stream of consciousness, you know.

one of the things i was thinking of using was the combination of words in common phrases without explanation. apparently its really common. what i mean as an example is when someone means to say the phrase "the plot thickens..." but a schizophrenic might just say "plickens..."

That's something non-schizophrenics do as well, and it often goes unnoticed

The idea is that hes a former hardboiled detective who became schizophrenic and is now homeless. He witnesses a serial murder and tries to tell the police but no one believes him/his thinking is too disorganized for him to explain it so he has to catch the killer himself.
