Pseudo existentialism? But it isn't... It is one of the fundamental texts of it.

Yeah, OP. A real poser, you seem to be great noticing all this people clearly inferior to you.

If you wouldn't notice yet, this utter shit book interested me in the first place because I relate these ideas, I believe in them. But you were probably baiting, oh wow congrats you got, oh wow you mad.

>>6482483
Just because something is a fundamental text of something doesn't mean it can't be shit, doesn't mean it can't feel like it's a poor grotesque of existentalist writers and certain other groups of people.

What are the superiors in existentialism? Please enlighten me. Nietzsche has an interesting prose style though he can't help but shout everything. Sartre is an incompetent writer. The Stranger is not the absolute pinnacle of western literature but you write it off far quicker than it deserves to be.

>>6482358

What? Existentialism is "practical philosophy" at its most banal. There's no ivory-tower-separation-from-human-experience stuff like you find in Kant or Hegel. It's all >muh embracing life as it 'truly' is and >muh diverse experiences. It's like the antithesis of overly abstract systematic philosophy. But yeah, I guess it's "edgy," if you actually discount ideas because of memes/internet culture.

Sorry, I fell asleep while you reading your post. But I'm sure glad you felt intellectual for a second while typing this sneeze fest turgid sounding monstrosity. Also, you completely dismissed my points while trying to boil me to down to your epic defensive 'YOU'RE JUST LE EDGY MEMER' meme.

Look at every photographic portrait of Albert Camus and imagine the camera before him; the time it takes to set up the camera, the time it takes to set up a shot. In every photo he is affecting a pose, as though enraptured in thought or contented with the way he sees things. It's artifice; pretension. The man is not a genuine intellectual.

All intellectual thought is artifice and pretension. Anything that takes more than 5 seconds to come up with isn't genuine.

What do you mean by intellectual thought? What are you referring to that takes more than 5 seconds?

>>6482623
There are genuine intellectuals who selflessly devote their existence to contemplation of the higher order of reality, and then there are 'intellectuals' who affect an image of the latter.

Your post is just a pained projection of your jaded outlook on life.

You have zero idea how portraiture works, don't you? He wasn't alive in the 1800's. Henri Cartier-Bresson was wrecking the street scene at the time. It look literally less than a second to get an exposure off.

Regardless, he is in front of a camera. He is aware that he will be photographed so he is affecting a posture that will be immortalize his image.

The best thing about Camus is that maybe some of the people who read and like his stuff will go onward to actual philosophy. In my experience all the people who like his stuff are emotionally constipated hipsters who need to gird their lives/experiences with a "philosophy of authenticity" but what's really another brand/dogma in practice. I think most of his success is because with the collapse of Christianity's intellectual cred in the west, people are hungry for some kind of philosophy of practical life which he managed to put in fairly simple terms. You can still do better in most of the major religious traditions or, if you want to jerk off over subtlety and untranslated Greek words, Heidegger. Camus is barely a step above wherever-you-go-that's-where-you-are pop-Zen.

Just because Tolstoy or Joyce didn't dramatize the existential dilemma in the same self-conscious way Camus did doesn't mean it's not there in them. All Camus did is strain out that bit and hammer it out over and over and over again until it was so obvious your average facebook user could claim they understand everything in "The Stranger" and they'd probably be right.

tldr: disliking Camus isn't just edgemastery. do Buddhism and reread Dubliners and then see where the guy stands as a philosopher.
