I like Camus as much as the next anon, but you really should not be considering a translation as 'prose.'

I attack Dostoevsky and all the butthurt Ruskie-fags come out of the woodwork.
Dostoevsky was shit, even Nabokov pointed this out. While his characters are second to none, the long drawn out boring dialogues are fucking atrocious. Not to mention his lack of style, boring and terse prose.

Lolita is the perfect example. The first half was both beautiful in writing and plot, the second half was well written but lacked substance.

>both beautiful in writing and plot
yeah, I don't know. the plot was definitely better than in second half, that's for sure.

The *whole* thing felt like lacking substance.

Dosto was a true man of the people and knew about suffering, that's why his characters were so good. Nabokov was a rich spoilt cunt who knows nothing about life, hence no substance. It's a classic case of jealousy. Nabokov's granddad or someone also sent Dosto to Siberia. His whole family hated him. Nabokov is shit when it comes to substance, even criticizing it.

"Falling on his knees by her bedside he held his wife's hand to his lips, kissing it, and that hand, by a feeble movement of the fingers, replied to the kisses. And meanwhile at the foot of the bed, like a flame above the lamp, flickered in Mary Vlasevna's skilful hands the life of a human being who had never before existed: a human being who, with the same right and the same importance to himself, would live and would procreate others like himself.
