I'm about to start venturing in to the work of Thomas Pynchon. I am choosing to start at the beginning: V. Is this a good start? Has anyone read it?

Benny's parts sure are. Also Esther's nosejob is a good time. Or V's play.
I didn't really "like" the Fausto chapter but it was beautiful imagery, anyway. You'll see.

I've just started my first venture into Pynchon as well, although I went for Gravity's Rainbow.

So far so good, it's achingly funny at times, although it jumps between narration and internal (monologue? flashback? no idea what you'd call it) so suddenly that one minute you're reading about the various kinds of dishes that can be made out of banana and the next you're reading about a giant adenoid which has to be fed copious amounts of cocaine (And this is only the beginning of the book!).

It takes a large amount of effort to suspend your preconceptions about how a novel should be, but its fucking worth it.
