Any other Tolkien fans on here?

I just finished reading Tuors journey to Gondolin and Narn i Hîn Húrin. I have to say I feel incredibly sorry for Túrin and I'm not really sure what Tolkien was angling for when writing his character. It seems to me that he was being incredibly sadistic and unfair when you consider how well his cousin, Tuor turned out.

If I'm being honest the story left a bad taste in my mouth.

He wanted to write a tragedy, basically.

Turin gets his revenge. In the Dagor Dagorath, The Battle Of Battles at the end of time (Tolkien's version of Ragnarok) he is fated to kill Morgoth once and for all, ending him forever.

He gained this honor by being the one who suffered the most because of Morgoth.

Honestly, the Children of Hurin might be my favourite of Tolkien's works. Maybe second to the unfinished Lay of Leithian.

But I thought he died and only the souls of Elves are tied to Middle Earth. Mortal men go off to a different plane.

I know but it makes no difference.

That battle takes place at the end of time, and every single being who ever was will have some role in it IIRC.

we can only hope that we're living in Arda, and after we die the Dagor Dagorath will come, and we'll join in
