Christianism is directly linked to neoplatonism (Augustin). Middle Age is mostly aristotelicien, which produce nominalism, which is at the base of modern science. Modern philosophers concepts are all greek (substance = hupokeimenon, being = on, reason = nous). Greek never stopped, it survived through other culture (changed and evolved in good and bad ways).
