Ok, I am going to be really honest with you. I have researched his songs after I heard that he was a good poet, and after some time I came to this conclusion:

His “poetry” is very bad and it is only mentioned because of political-correctness and in face of his famous death and success in the black community. There is hardly any single line that merits a compliment. His biographers like to describe him as a “ferocious” and “avid” reader, but if that was the case then he didn’t learn anything with the books that he read, using nothing in his “art” or in his life.

He hardly uses metaphors or imagery and when he does they are generally cliché; he doesn’t show any comprehension of life beyond his own mediocre impression (crowded with his own prejudices, like even some sort of hate towards women) and no capacity for empathy. He mostly speaks like some member of an ancient tribe was going to speak about other tribes: “This are my brothers, those are our enemies; we are great, they are bad; brothers are faithful to one another, but we must beware of traitors, etc.”. He is neither a poet of crude thoughts but great technique nor a poet of great thoughts but with deficient technic.

He is some sort of worsened black-writer: he stays on the same island of subject of racial segregation (the island that most black writers are incapable of abandoning) but hardly constructs anything of value upon the topic.

He is a pop star, nothing more. Even Lana del Rey lyrics are better than the ones he wrote.

Now, about Tupac: he was not only a terrible writer, he was also a rapist and a violent individual (one example: in the night he was shot he and his friends beat up some other guy: a case of group violence against a single individual –now that’s manly, a real case of honor and glory, don’t you think?). He is not a good artist (not even a mediocre one) and a piece of garbage as a human being. There is nothing in him to sustain any admiration.
