How the fuck am I supposed to design a cover that would not look like an utter pile of unprofessional dog shit? Are there really no noob-proof online resources targeted at making some sort of overly simplistic good-looking cover? I am a goddamn author, not a goddamn designer.

Oh my god, really? This is wonderful! I'd be eternally grateful to you, man.
Basically, all I need is a very simple cover with some simple drawing or a pattern that would look somehow eye-pleasing and matching with book's title, subtitle and my name as an author of the book - nothing more, nothing less. I envision it as something akin to the cover on the pic related.
Book's title is "Critical Thinking and Politics"
Book's subtitle is "A Critique of Democracy and Authoritarianism"

Hey OP, I know your pain. I make all my own covers (as well as labels for beer) so I think I've got something of a handle on this. Admittedly, I haven't put in much work, about twenty minutes total, but if the other anon doesn't come through I thought you might like. It's pre-configured to Kindle/Lulu size and format.

As well as adding a geometrical break, the squares are supposed to represent the party split after the election.
