How does /lit/ deal with the fact that there's too much to read?

One word at a time.
One sentence at a time.
One paragraph at a time.
One book at a time.
Simple.
The trick here is never to stop reading, mate.

I don't worry about things I can't control.

I'm such a pleb that I spent that last few weeks lurking /lit/ to find entry level books that were akin to my idea of what my tastes are. Thinking about thinking what I may like instead of just reading just to read. At the end of this lurking session all got was; "Read Camus if you want to be a /lit/-bitch, read Hegel if you want to transcend to a /lit/izen."

I've come to this realization while I was a teenager, which is why I never really got into literature, and instead chose cinema as my favorite medium. It only has 100 years of history, but the more I dig, the more I realize I could also spend my entire lifetime without being able to watch everything I wanna see.

I just read from time to time as a side hobby and it's nice to not put that kind of pressure on myself to feel obligated to go through the entire canon, although I definitely would if I could become immortal.

With apathy.
With disdain for the mainstream and support to what my community or subculture makes.

read one book over and over again instead of reading multiple books

i used to read multiple books, but it got too worrisome

>> No.6413616

it's a personal pursuit, what you read doesn't matter to anyone else

Not trying to sound like a defeatist, but is there really that much to gain from reading everything ever written? It's difficult enough trying to become good at one thing and finding out that you'd need something from a different discipline (even if we're talking about philosophy as needing or being needed).

I think Zizek's first wife had some lectures and books on the angst of having to choose which relatea to this to some extent. I do constantly do shitty calculations (if I read this many pages a day, where will I be in 20 years, etc.?) constantly and yet I know that I'll grow old playing videogames and watching TV Shows rather than reading.
