Hello /lit/, Lit student here. Assigned a paper for which each student has to choose a philosopher who influenced the work of a literary figure.

There may be more obvious/easier route, but I picked Ludwig Wittgenstein and Samuel Beckett. Before I was given this paper, I had thought about writing my thesis on the relationship between the two.

I find discussion to be the best way to generate ideas.

If there is one, what are your thoughts on the relationship?

I think Beckett's work was influenced more by the later Wittgenstein (although Beckett claims to have not read any of it before doing the majority of his work).

Any thoughts?

Might make more sense to do Schopenhauer

I've noticed similarities between the two but I was certain that there wasn't any evidence they even knew about each other

If there is no proof that somebody actually read somebody else, than do not say they were influenced by what they may or may not have read. Just extrapolate and discuss the similarities, and perhaps look at other people who've done the same (I mean, duh, Beckett and Wittgenstein, someone's most definitely done this before) and the overall context. Particularly interesting would be to tie this into current Beckett and/or Wittgenstein research.

What's so Wittgenstein about Beckett?

this thread had it easy, you needn't have gone to such efforts to outshine OP's titular faggotry
