The dog is the Fall of the Man. After thousand of years, a common dog is subjugated in mind and body from birth-- if you kick him for stealing food, he'll expose his belly to show submission, and then commit the crime again as soon as you give him your back.
The cat is the Rebirth of the Man. If he does not like you, if you haven't won his respect, he'll eat your food and then walk away from you, and kicking him will make him run away or scratch you, and if you really offend him he'll ujst wander away from your house altogether.
