I heard this one's pretty brutal. I guess you enjoyed it since you read it in a day?

Yeah, since it's particularly engaging with its stream of consciousness narrative style and the profound emotional attachment forced upon the reader.

This book gave me my first nightmare in about 9 years.

I couldn't finish it.

loved this book. my history professor, who used to play devils advocate all the time, gave this book out as an assignment. one of my favorites to this day. so much heavier than most war novels.

No Country For Old Men. My wife was reading it recently and I picked it up to see where she was up to and before I knew it I'd re-read the whole thing.

The only book of merit I've read in a single day was Of Mice and Men.

I read 1984 in a weekend while camping, though.

I spread that book over 4 days to fully comprehend everything that is going on. It's short, but very dense; it has a lot going on. Do you think you'll read it again soon?

I finished the TBK -- Dostoevsky in a day. I started it in the morning, and finished around 11pm. Skipped my classes and all my obligations. I could not put it down; it was absolutely gripping. That was around my 1st year at Uni (graduated in winter this year) when I read pretty quickly, now my reading speed is incredibly slow, so I could never do that again.

How can you read on acid? That acid must have been a weak dosage.

I binge-read a 150k word serial I found on /tg/ on Sunday.

Not sure that counts as a book, but it was definitely the most fun I've had reading in months. I wish I could get the same enthusiasm up for the classics though, I wind up needing a break every few hours...

The Count of Monte Cristo was supposed to be a joke. The rest were individual days. Ender's game was one 12-14 hour sitting, Princess Bride was two 9-10 hours sitting. It might not have been in one 'day' but it was in two sittings, between which I did not sleep. I had to eat at one point.

Material density and dryness are real. It took me longer to read Kierkegaard's Fear and Trembling vs. Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls

>serial I found on /tg/ on Sunday.
>the most fun I've had reading in months

I'm intrigued, please elaborate.

>>6412088
This is the truth.
Dryness aside, a fair number of the classics are too dense to digest properly in a single sitting. Better to nibble at them and think for a while.

It's called the All Guardsmen Party.

Honestly I don't know if you'd find it palatable. It's an amateur work, if you get twitchy over occasional comma misuse I wouldn't recommend it. Additionally, it certainly is a piece of /tg/ writing, and while not required, basic knowledge of the background makes it much more enjoyable. I'd even recommend skipping the prologue chapter if you aren't familiar with /tg/.

Those caveats aside, it's a wonderful series of military science fiction stories. There's amusing dark humor, enjoyable action scenes, and I actually found myself caring about the characters. It's a fun read, and I'll probably go re-read it in a month or so when the next chapter is published.

Sorry for the essay, I'm not sure why I felt the need to write a miniature review in a thread no one is likely to read. Here's a link to the 1d4chan page, from there the actual story is hosted on a google site as well as the /tg/ archives.
