Yes, they various historians and chroniclers, writing in two differing dialects, one highbrow one for the commoner, are the more famous ones now. Though it's hard to gauge what the people then liked the most.
They liked their poetry and biographies, but usually wrote about the saints and the emperors. And oh so much of it was of a theological nature, as you can imagine.
