I've never read her, but I've never understood these "dramaturgical" sociological theories, or the distinction between "performance" and "performative." Seems like fancy pomo buzzwords with no falsifiability.

Don't get me wrong, I think gender is socialized and not completely 100% based on biological sex, but it seems that we can just say that plainly, instead of simply repackaging that observation in mystifying language.

But that's not how you get undergrads to cite you and your books to sell, I suppose.

He's a gay pedophile sexual deviant who saw himself in everything he read. He's very popular with feminist and SJW and they try to pass him as a historian ("Historian of idea"). But nobody in philosophy or history talk about him at all.

He was hardly as deviant as you say. But then again, to Nationalists anyone who has homosexual leanings whilst questioning concepts like gender is a heathen pervert despite knowing they've done enough they could never be in any kind of public light.

As for Pedophilia, he was never a fucking pedophile. He argued that wtihout traditional morality and state or any kind of control, issues of age of consent would have to be explored. And that's something to criticize about Foucault. But it's not like age of Consent is a universal standard, in my mind, it should be 16, but everyone tends to differ and it's controversial. Touching upon that hardly makes anyone a fucking pedophile.

Aside from that, like I understand he isn't everyone's cup of tea, but talking out your ass about these issues isn't helping anyone.

Accepting an eternity in hell is as abstract as an eternity in heaven when the source of terms has no fixed signifiers. The only points of reference for the rich and edifying symbolism would have to be drawn as arbitrarily from selfhood to make the ceremonial transgression of the templar knights seem petty.

Read J.L Austen's essay on performatives. It's a very pleasant little essay and a great way to start making sense of modern critical theory

>it seems that we can just say that plainly, instead of simply repackaging that observation in mystifying language.
it isn't mystifying, so much as it is uncomfortably specific. Part of the trouble with contemporary theory is not that its unfalsifiable or that it's obscurantist, but it's simply built ontop of such a complex web of presupposed knowledge that it would be pointless to talk about in laymens terms.

39 But I say unto you that ye resist not evil, but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40 And if any man will sue thee at the law and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him two.

42 Give to him that asketh thee; and from him that would borrow of thee, turn not thou away.

43 “Ye have heard that it hath been said, ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy.’

44 But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you,

45 that ye may be the children of your Father who is in Heaven. For He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

That massage about the man caressing the girl in History of Sexuality v1 didn't come off as pro-pedo when I read it. It was more of an observation of an interesting change that was indicative of changing power-discourse relations within Western society during the emergence of industrial/bourgeois liberalism than 'look at this poor man being dragged away by the evil state.'
