A lot of Poe's short stories (The Fall of the House of Usher fits and is brilliant, The Tell-Tale Heart, and The Black Cat)
The Professor and the Madman (in USA and Canada, it's titled The Surgeon of Crowthorne in UK)(awesome, interesting book about one of the people most responsible for the creation of the OED, fucking whackjob who thought people - Irishmen in particular if I remember correctly - were tormenting him at night and abducting him, taking to I think Istanbul and forcing him rape children)
