Obviously is not the same, but if you want to read in other language, that's as good as it gets.

Should a person have also the original just to know how it "sounds" in its native tongue?

absolute rubbish unless the languages are related eg romance language translations which can preserve aspects like gender, subjunctive and general grammatical structure. translating them into English is plebian heresy.

ask yourself this: how do you know they're not? you have zero clue as to how they're interpreted in their original or close to original texts. you have nothing to base any sort of opinion on. get off your ass and translate - anyone strictly reading in one language cannot be considered any sort of serious scholar.
