Was Spinoza the father of determinism? If not, who?

Is this a synonym to fatalism?

a lot of people use them interchangeably but they're not really the same. determinism posits that all human action is determined, i.e. that men are devoid of free will, however fatalism posits that ALL is determined; all is 'fated'. the distinction is that fatalism kind of shoots itself in the foot by extending the idea of man's determinacy with that of the world in general, for we have evidence of what appears to be completely random occurrences, free of any cause (isotope decay, for example). Determinism only posits that HUMAN actions are determined, not that the actions of the universe in full are.
