>He doesn't believe in human nature*

Human nature df= the set of qualities which, when predicated of a substance, determine the substance to be a human being

>> No.6294579

>>6294569
Do all human beings as such possess a common substance?

>> No.6294584

>>6294579
No, but the qualities common to their various substances are those that determine their humanity.

>> No.6294591

>he is a structuralist
the only nature that can be found in humans is nature also found in other mammals

>> No.6294598

>>6294591
So the species and the genus are identical? That doesn't seem possible.

>> No.6294605

>>6294598
you're misunderstanding.

there's no inherent behavior in man. other than very general axioms that can be applied to other mammals. with a few exceptions of course, linguistics, most obviously

>> No.6294615

>>6294605
So you admit there are qualitative differences between humans and other animals, and that these other animals are also differentiated from each other by qualities that species possess which aren't common to the genus as a whole?

>> No.6294624

>>6294615
ye

>> No.6294627

>>6294624
Then we're in agreement; human nature exists, just as monkey and fish nature exist?

>> No.6294629

>>6294615
but there are qualitative differences between any animal and other animals

and the latter part of your claim is only significant cuz homo sapiens are the only of their genus that is still living

>> No.6294636

>>6294627
okay yeah. I see.

>> No.6294648

>>6294629
>but there are qualitative differences between any animal and other animals
That's my point, actually; all animals have a nature.
>and the latter part of your claim is only significant cuz homo sapiens are the only of their genus that is still living
The other members of the genus Homo also had natures that differentiated then from that of Homo sapiens and other animals.

>> No.6294668

>>6294648
so what's your greater point. i've admitted that humans have a nature as any other animal would

>> No.6294676

>>6294668
That was my whole point. It would be pointless and incorrect to deny that human nature exists. Many people here deny it all the same, and I wanted to show that they were wrong to do so.
