it's written by writers who are contracted by some party or other
even when that isn't the case, the guy's writing won't go very far if it doesn't fit in with some party's policy
believe Plato said something about this . . .

the idea that literature reveals something about the "human condition" is just the ideology of the secular humanists / liberals who want to promote "multiculturalism", i.e. you have to read all of literature from every culture to get the "full truth" because that's part of being an educated, enlightened, multicultural westerner (although Hegel spiritualized this a bit by talking about a world-spirit that manifests itself through world cultures, but that is just a German way of saying the same thing).
