>unless you work all your life, writing, reading and thinking you will never be remembered
>even if you do dedicate yourself to literature you may not produce anything worthwhile
>even if you do write something timeless, it may be unjustly forgotten
>even if you do create something that will be read by generations it still means nothing since humans may destroy themselves at any point since the creation of nuclear weapons
>millions of years from now nobody will remember Plato or Tolstoy if we make it that far

Why not kill yourself right now?

Are you incapable of reading? I'm just stating that even if you do dedicate your life to literature, it's all pointless in the end.

I'm not saying that I will ever do so, because I'm too weak. Stop implying things that aren't there, just because you're bitter.

Let me guess, your protagonists are always approached early in the story by a character who gives them some lame speech detailing what the book is about?

You're actually way too optimistic. Anyone who attempts to dedicate their life to literature is practically certain to never be published, let alone publish something great/famous- given the number of people attempting to write vs. those who succeed at it, that's just basic maths.

Epic maymays, though.

That's not an answer. How is 'being remembered after you die' not just an arbitrary target to set yourself? What's so desirable about it?

Seriously, who gives a shit?

Why do most of the people on this board, in spite of their supposed intellectualism, care so much about 'making something of themselves.'

Here's an idea: stop being so caught up in your ego. Enjoy art FOR THE SAKE OF IT. Contribute to art FOR THE SAKE OF IT. You don't have to strive toward some significant creative achievement, or a long-lasting legacy. You can just be an ordinary person who enjoys literature.

It's clear that you cling, either consciously or unconsciously, to the capitalistic notion that one has to use one's skill or intelligence to 'achieve' something. As if it's not enough to possess the skill or intelligence. The important thing, the very essential thing, is to build oneself up. The creative 'gift,' then, becomes secondary. This is nonsense.

Let's drop this idea, this dogma, of creative striving. It's dehumanizing. It suggests that one's worth doesn't lie in the possession of some bit of greatness, but the vast circulation or widespread acknowledgement of it. You're better than this, /lit/.

Top. Kek.

The people on this board hate reading. They force themselves to read like they force themselves to exercise, except the goal is to inflate their already over-inflated ego instead of losing weight.

The whole idea of the artistic genious didn't come about before the romantic period.
It's just a marketing scheme to make people more interested in art. Traditionally, this kind of idoltary was mocked and looked down upon.

'Artists' are like mirrors, the real artist is the world that is mirrored in the artwork.

Da Vinci didn't create Mona Lisa millions of years of evolution did.

What these times need the most can be said in two words "the eternal"; because this is this problem with this time: that it is precisely only time and it does not wish to look outside of temporal things.
Yearning for the eternal is in all of us, the ways have been forgotten, and most of the times they are sold to us as yet another commodity. But in one way or the other, everyone who walks the true path to themselves will experience the eco of eternity in time, the silent whisper of god
