What do you think is the best written plot/story you've experienced that wasn't 'true' literature?

For example, films (that weren't based on books), TV shows, games, radio etc.

For me, probably either the Metal Gear Solid series or Lost or something.

Shitrocks by itself, but book series make it even better. Horus Heresy series and the Eisenhorn/Ravenor series are awesome, not to mention the entire Gaunt's Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain series.

The Ace Combat series has a neat overarching story to tell between all of its games, even if it's a bit hamfisted and unrealistic. Air power being the sole decisive factor in every war for 80 years? Yeah.

I thought the plot to Avatar: The Last Airbender was incredibly well done. The characters grew and advanced naturally and the story was deep and mature. It was certainly better than a kids show had any right to be, and was frankly better penned than most 'real' TV shows.

A lot of people seem to forget the plot to the second, saying only the first is worth a penny. Frankly, I preferred the plot to The Sith Lords, what with Traya basically being a reincarnation of Nietzsche following you about.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. I don't know if I'd exactly say they had a great story, although they had perfect, simple stories. Just everything about those games oozed beauty, a brilliant example of what video games can do that other mediums cant.
Also Baldur's Gate 2, Metroid Prime (if you payed attention), Odin Sphere, Okami, and, as everyone keeps saying, MGS3. With MGS3 the plot on the whole is kind of silly, but that fucking ending. Such an emotional gut punch. Fucking making you pull the trigger too. So damn well done.

see Yahtzee's review? Everything in the story was way too boring and predictable. And for the world I think I have an uncanny valley problem - so close to real it needed to be real to pass. Creepy, but not in a good way. Things like bedrooms were missing, there was nowhere people could've actually *lived*, which given the detail in other areas let the game down. Either less, like older games, or go all out, like fallout three did. Sure, the houses were all samey and boring, but at least they were there.
