Did Chomsky ever lose a debate?

His fanboys will defend him to the point where it is impossible to convince them of him being wrong about anything, ever. So, mhere's just a quick reminder that he supported Hezbullah staying in arms, effectively denying Lebanese souvereignty. Also, Pol fucking Pot.

how did that deny the Labanese their souvereignty

if anything Hezbollah helped them maintain it by kicking Israel out of southern Lebanon, if it weren't for Hezbollah Israel would still be there claiming it was part of Israel

Watch Chomsky / Foucault. Foucault wins twice, once on Chomsky being unable to develop a test for universal grammar, the second time on the proletariat and morality.

Both are Ippon throws.

I meant staying in arms after Israel left, functioning as a state withon the state, and a governmental tool of Syria and Iran. Not that Irael had had any reason to reamain in Lebanon for that long other than Hezbullah to begin with.

>>6207846
That is a very mute point. One must look at Chomsky's opinions over the course of time, not cherry pick something he said and then later said the opposite due to new information arsing. The same thing could be said about you if you claimed 'George W Bush shall be a wonderful passive president!' upon his inauguration. Henceforth, you changed your mind upon seeing the actions of George W Bush.

i thought that Hezbollah is elected democratically and that they play a role in government through participating in Lebanons Parliment.

militarily they have there own policy but as long as what they are doing in that regard isnt illegal under Lebanese law its unfair to say they are rulling illegally if they are voted in by the Lebanese

I don't think he ever changed bis stance on Hezbullah, and on Pol Pot he did so later than everyone else, including the communists of Vietnam, which is quite telling.

He does not lose political debates.

You can find him losing debates on linguistics though.

>>6207869
That was hardly a debate. It was more of two people talking in two different languages (made it hard for each to relate tot he other their meaning).

>voted democratically
No one ever voted for them to maintain military control over a sizeable part of the country. What's next, are you going to bring up Sheeba Farms as a legitimate cause for 'resistance'?

Foucault seemed to be able to comprehend Chomsky just fine, even through the language difficulties. And you have to admit the following:

1) Believing that tests of empirical reality determine if claims about empirical reality are true
while
2) Not having the capacity to conceive of a test for your central claim
is a contradiction enough to dismantle the reason to bother with the empirical elements of the claim.

And, secondly,

1) That holding a normative morality as universally true is to claim that there is a universal human nature
2) Which is in conflict with the empirically observed changing expressions of humanity over time

Also

That failing to comprehend how a liberal morality feeds into the preservation of the existing order of things is an inferior position to a power theorisation of society that allows for the destruction of the existing order of things.

Chomsky didn't realise he was in a debate, because Chomsky can't think outside of his own very small box of righteous progressive indignation. Chomsky certainly can't serve the proletariat.

By the way, I detest Foucault's academic work.

They were literally speaking two different languages as well as figuratively since their schools of thought were so different there was very little common ground for the debate.

Which is strange because the debate is obviously in two phases:

Whether language is determinate and structured:

Foucault 1, Chomsky 0

Whether politics is moral:

Foucault 1, Chomsky 0.25

Zizek beat him. They were out at the bar one night, and Zizek pulled how a picture of Stalin and tried to force Chomsky to kiss it. Of course Chomsky did not get Zizek's sort of humor, instead he tried to argue against the absurdity... which of course didn't work because Zizek just started screaming about ideology. Soon enough it was a brawl, books and booze flying everywhere. Of course the only real tragedy of the occasion was Amy Goodman who tried to calm the hysteria by holding up a bust of Hegel. All that did was infuriate everyone involved causing the whole bar as well as half of Amy's hair to go up in flame.

hard mode: quote what he said supporting Pol Pot or at least cite the work in which he supported him
