I think i figured out this book. It's joke. A joke on the so-called intellectuals. Everybody (who wants to seem smart or cultured or whatever) owns it. But they never read it. Or they are currently reading it but it's dragging on what seems like an eternity. That why it's an Infinite Jest

Not a joke. Just a really good book. I don't understand how someone could not like it. Honestly. It took me about a month to read it. The "plot" isn't there all of the time but there is story after story. The stories of the characters in this book are just fucking beautiful. THe characters are fucking brilliant. Some of the strangest and funniest I've had the pleasure of reading about. I would honestly recommend this book to anyone. Easy read, just fucking long.

What? I read at a rhythm of 20 pages an hour, which is pretty average. It was one extremely bizarre week, unique in my life up to that point. I kept thinking about the book, dreaming about the book. It was kinda like a drug, you know. I couldn't get away from it. I had to finish it. When I finished I cried, just because of the sheer magnitude of my accomplishment.

Before I read through most of the bookt, I figured The Entertainment was just a nonexistent thing that JOI described but never made to give the finger to academics too, OP, but that feels trite compared to what the case actually was.

The point was, despite how Infinite Jest IV sounded so ridiculous and silly and pernicious, it was created out of pure, honest intentions to help develop Hal.

DFW was trying to scrape through what he saw as the draining effects of irony that came with television and its resultant damage to interpersonal relationships and narratives. He wanted to lead you through the book with those thoughts and then show you that there still exists so much real human pain to be communicated beneath that absurdity.

That's was the jest. There wasn't one, but you'll keep looking for it anyway.
