Honestly, the whole Elliott Rodgers thing hit me pretty hard. I saw flaws in him that I realized I had, albeit to a lesser extreme. The book is also pretty good, and if it were marketed and published as fiction it would probably sell a lot of copies. The narrative style, the use of old-fashioned words, the obsession...he had a great grasp of character, it's just a shame it was his own.

Great use of the unreliable narrator technique. I constantly had to think: Is Elliot telling the truth? Is he intentionally lying about his experiences or is he genuinely too crazy to see what's going on?

When I read books by BEE, Liar's Poker, and watch movies like Goodfellas and The Wolf of Wall Street, there's always a condemnation of these cool characters that do bad things while enjoying it. It was a nice change to read a book about a loser looking in to the fun / hedonism and desiring it, rather than a book about someone in the centre of it who ends up hating it / having their downfall caused by it.

If you read the book you'll probably come to the conclusion that at least some of what he did is bullshit. Other characters consonantly mention that Bateman is too meek to be doing the things he's boasted, and the cop chase scene is just batshit. He also claimed to have murdered someone that was still alive. Despite his self described "incredible sexual prowess" he can only bang hookers, the frequency and number of killings he's claimed is way out there. The only scene that people say truly supports him killing anyone is him visiting the apartment of what's his face and talking with the landlady, but her apprehension could have been taken any number of ways. Him simply being awkward, him making her uncomfortable with his questioning, him possibly having been seen around the area a lot probably walking around or pacing, etc.

And he probably argued with the Chinese lady so much because his clothes WEREN'T dirty yet he kept insisting there was shit (blood) on them. At most he killed a couple of homeless men and maybe a couple of hookers.
