How do I into Faulkner?

From what I understand there are fucking guides out there on how to "get" his books, is he really that inaccessible?

just read his books first, jesus

There are companion readers to every famous or semi-famous writer, that doesn't Tell much about the writer.
Start with the Sound and the fury. I did, and I Think I 'got' it, at least well enough for a first read.

no sense in trying to fabricate expectations for yourself before a first read

As I Lay Dying -> The Sound and the Fury

I into'd Faulkner in a intro English class when I started college. I did not at all enjoy reading As I Lay Dying, but I greatly enjoyed reading and discussing the theories about the book and what it was accomplishing.

So for me, the critical discussion actually made the book, and in that sense I would advocate some 'guided' version, or at least reading the introduction or afterword by the publisher.

100% false.

Who in their right noodle would opt to read someone else's "guide" instead of just reading the ACTUAL book? By all means read criticisms on the piece(s), but AFTERWARDS, not before or during; don't muddy your own pool with someone else's shit.

I mean, I thought my second sentence got the order of events out pretty clearly. I read the book, didn't like it, then read theory on the book and found discussing it pleasant. I too agree that OP can probably come to some more 'original' understanding of the book if they read it first.

Sorry, doll. Mine was more a general statement than an indepth analysis and calculated scolding for a perceived act of silliness on your part. I hope I didn't offend your sensitivities.

What do you mean?

I finished As I Lay Dying and loved it.

Are you saying the next step shouldn't be The Sound and the Fury?

Oh. You just don't know what > the greater than sign means.

That's fine. Read As I Lay Dying than The Sound and the Fury. But The Sound and the Fury is the greater book.
