I really enjoyed it. If you're the type to consider reading it then you're probably also the type to like it. Far from a literary masterpiece, but good for genre-fiction.

>> No.6165998

I guess it mostly depends on what you enjoy most, or what you want to achieve.

Stalker in the metro. The MC is pretty pathetic, but the imagery is nice, the plot is captivating, and the ending is damn neat.

I dunno about pathetic, he goes through some pretty extreme circumstances and doesn't ever flag, but he's still sympathetic enough as a character to identify with. I totally felt his fear in the library, for example. And I definitely would have looked at the red star.

Eh, I guess. It's been a long time since I read the book, but I just don't remember him doing much until the end of the book.

I've done both, and honestly the game stuck with me more. Not sure why or what that means. It was just a bit more fun. I don't remember the book being bad though.

Still need to run through Last Light.

They're pretty different honestly. The game's atmosphere is incredible. I'd say play the game first and if you really like it give the book a go too.

The part with the library and then in the blocks where he thinks he found his old apartment was strong.

I did not like the ending though, and the author should have developed the idea of the picture Artyom found a bit more.

Is it my mother, uncle Sasha has probably forgotten, but he might have not, but he probably has. Is this her ? IDK.

I read it literally last week and enjoyed it a lot. I don't play video games so I can't advise you on that.

There are allusions to Roadside Picnic, if I'm not mistaken. They use the term "stalker" for people who leave the metro for the surface, braving radiation and unknown threats, to recover artifacts. I read the SF Masterworks version of Roadside Picnic and found the concept much more compelling than the novel itself; it read too much like a poor attempt at American pulp which I suppose is to be expected for some Soviet writers.

I loved the ending, it's truly horrific.
