In all seriousness its part of a larger cultural phenomena to try and instill confidence in those types of people who might not have it naturally.
I don't think its necessarily a bad thing, but it is truly pandering, even if its not a negative type of pandering. Its an open and upfront and as honest as can be type of pandering; that is to say that: in any situation where someone will tell you at the outset that they will always give you a "positive" outlook on whatever the subject it they are already to some extent pandering to you.

But in some sense, everyone has a "weakness" to pander too. Pandering is not always a basic or low brow activity. This whole "safe space" promise that many internet circles promote currently is exactly the type of thing that someone is looking for to "cure" their weakness and lack of security. You are promising to a certain type of person who needs to be reassured that they will only be reassured in the discourse.

Many "NERDS XD" are just that type of person.
