I also enjoyed Birdman.
And off the top of my head...
The illustrated man for personal reasons

>"I just watched birdman."

Carver is an arid, and clunky writer. The Sartre of American lit.

The main character adapts that short story collection to a stage production

it's meant to be his redemption in show business

>> No.6084699

I didn't even know this was involved in a new movie, I swear! I read some Carver in a college lit class and really enjoyed him (Cathedral was the story we read).

>> No.6084730

Cathedral is a really great story and his best. I don't think anything else of his comes close.

Overall I think Carver is a one-trick pony. I think his life bleeds through in his work to a nauseating degree. He cheated on his wives and lived a life of pain and emptiness because of it so all his characters do too.

Lesson to be learned from Carver? If you're going to throw your life into turmoil because of romantic decisions don't be a pussy about it afterward.

There's just something so human about these stories.
