Which is why I'm not really trying anything. I don't want to change who I am because of this (though I do want to change who I am because I'm a piece of shit) or anything else, really, I just wish they still liked me. It's really just a feeling of longing.

I asked why, didn't get an answer besides "I just don't. We don't match". They're afraid of hurting others, so I don't believe that's really why, I think they just didn't want to tell me because it would make my self loathing worse.

Ah well. Thank you for listening anyhow. I do hope life goes on soon like it did for you.

Ohhh shit I see. I thought you being snarky like "thanks for the name drop." Lol, not a problem man, like I said he's one of my favorite authors and has a lot of quick short stories that are easy to read yet have a lot of meaning behind them. I'd reccomend Misery, The Bet, The bishop, and Gooseberries as well, in addition to Gusev. There's a great website that has 201 of his stories on it, if you just search "201 Chekhov" on google.

i would agree though, about how he captures an odd essence of humanity. His characters are often realistically morose, they strike a sense of compassion in me, even the ones i feel i should despise.
I read that he his actual profession was a medical doctor, and that he just wrote stories at night and in his free time. I was thinking this might have something to do with why his characters are so great, because he knew many intimate details about many different peoples live. Just a theory.

I also his accessibility, some days ill just read a story of his before i go to work in the morning

It doesn't seem that outrageous to me. IJ is way more work than genre fiction, but DFW has a method of making it a lot of fun.
Am I missing some sort of vital intertextuality here without exposure to older postmodern lit? Would you recommend anything to read in particular?

A little melancholic and detached. Just went to a wedding of two acquaintances I've know for a very long time. A significant portion of the group was from church and a church camp I went to when I was younger. Lots of long unwanted histories with those people, being cramped in the same space and being opposed in almost every way coupled with a mutual awkward emotional distance that comes up every time I see them. Nowadays, I can hardly enter the same building without feeling uncomfortable. Did find someone from out of state interesting to talk to though.
