Just starting Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. Thoughts on this book? The writing is gorgeous so far.

He is right on not one but two levels, and drops far off a cliff on the third. You've to stop acting like an idiot firstly. Then you must seek to rid idiots like out friend ahove me and to some extent yourself far away from this world. In orbit his hollow command and purple prose will shatter all preconceived notions of what idiocy is here on earth, while you are forever stuck not able to finish what you've started. What we have left is me and you able to choose how we truly are, and our friend above stuck inside the mud pit which is your life.

read it a few times when i was younger. then i bought the annotated version. read that with the cliff notes. what a dirty, dirty book. venus came and went, indeed.
