Do you think his suicide note had footnotes? Maybe it started with 'And but so'.

I don't know but I really wish it had leaked. I have a morbid fascination with suicide notes.

If it makes you feel any better, DFW - a hanging corpse after all - definitely leaked.

Virginia Wolfs suicide note was p dope.:

Dearest,

I feel certain I am going mad again. I feel we can’t go through another of those terrible times. And I shan’t recover this time. I begin to hear voices, and I can’t concentrate. So I am doing what seems the best thing to do. You have given me the greatest possible happiness. You have been in every way all that anyone could be. I don’t think two people could have been happier till this terrible disease came. I can’t fight any longer. I know that I am spoiling your life, that without me you could work. And you will I know. You see I can’t even write this properly. I can’t read. What I want to say is I owe all the happiness of my life to you. You have been entirely patient with me and incredibly good. I want to say that – everybody knows it. If anybody could have saved me it would have been you. Everything has gone from me but the certainty of your goodness. I can’t go on spoiling your life any longer.

I don’t think two people could have been happier than we have been.

You know, I was interested in reading Infinite Jest at first, but every time I see a picture of DFW's stupid fucking bandana, I lose even more interest.

Why the fuck's he wear it? With a suit? All fucked-up looking instead of worn properly? It looks like shit.

>Wallace in his final hours had "tidied up [his] manuscript so that his wife could find it. Below it, around it, inside his two computers, on old floppy disks in his drawers were hundreds of other pages—drafts, character sketches, notes to himself, fragments that had evaded his attempt to integrate them into the novel."[3]

I think it was kinda shameless for him to arrange for his last work to be published posthumously.

After Amherst, Wallace went to the University of Arizona. It was where he picked up the bandanna. "I started wearing them in Tuscon because it was a hundred degrees all the time, and I would perspire so much I would drip on the page. [...] Then I began thinking about the phrase 'keeping your head together.' It makes me feel kind of creepy that people view it as a trademark or something- it's more a recognition of a weakness, which is that I'm just kind of worried that my head's gonna explode."

You are such a fucking mellon. If you knew that people were inspired by your work, connected with it, and understood themselves better because of it wouldn't you do the same? I just think it's courteous. He would be depriving at least some people something they could learn from and relate to- killing himself before getting his papers in order would have been selfish.

As much as we shitpost about DFW, I've read about a third of Infinite Jest so far and I've got to say it's the best thing I've read...in a while? or ever? It's fucking brilliant.

It rather perfectly balances 'high-brow' and 'low-brow' elements, creating a novel that is both informing and touching and yet entertaining even on a simple level.
