What are some books that would help to overcome feelings of guilt/remorse?
I'm not talking about "spent too much money" or "should have gone to the gym" type of guilt. I'm talking about gut-wrenching guilt. The kind that keeps you up at night. The kind that makes you cry and gives you suicidal thoughts.

Fiction (maybe something with a despicable character finding redemption) or non-fiction (philosophy could work). It doesn't matter.

That's a good suggestion but I've already read it.

If you can read in portuguese try A Hora e Vez de Augusto Matraga, a novella from the book Sagarana.
I was thinking about The Stranger and Deutsches Requiem, but I fear neither are exactly what you want.

Tenth of December: Stories, by George Saunders. The book is a collection of stories, with the final story dealing with the topic of suicide.
