Do you make notes when you read?

>> No.6051095

>>6050292
Yes, or I write down passages I like aesthetically or agree with. In order to remember them better.

>> No.6051105

Only if it's conducive to my University studies.

Mentally, yes; textually, seldom.

>> No.6052547

No, I find that doing that detracts from the focus on the bigger picture, which is what works best for me when I analyze the book.

For me reading the book and comprehending it then and there is enough. Sometimes I'll highlight a word i dont know, but that's it really.

I outline stuff mostly. Passages I like, words I don't know, important details.

I could but my journal's in my car and it's fucking freezing outside. Definitely not going outside in pajamas to take a picture of my notebook.

But I usually take notes on my phone and then transfer them to my notebook. Here's a screenshot of that. Not all of these are vocab, but words used in a strange or uncommon context or diction that I found interesting and may want to use later on. Others are actually just vocab. I define those and use them in a sentence as I transfer them.

I used to always take notes in the very book i was reading or in a separate notebook. However i came to realize this is really only valuable for precise objective reading.
Let the literature take you on a ride, instead of being concerned with having the best and absolutely correct understanding of it.

At least on the first go, imo. Save all the note taking and shit for the second+ readings (if it's good enough to warrant reading again)
